The term raga was defined by Joep Bor of the Rotterdam Conservatory of Music as “tonal framework for composition and improvisation.”^[2] Nazir Jairazbhoy, chairman of UCLA‘s department of ethnomusicology, characterized ragas as separated by scale, line of ascent and descent, transilience, emphasized notes and register, and intonation and ornaments.^[3]

Rāgini is an archaic term for the ‘feminine’ counterpart to a rāga.

In Carnatic music, rāgas are classified as Janaka rāgas and Janya rāgas. Janaka rāgas are the rāgas from which the Janya rāgas are created. Janaka rāgas are grouped together using a scheme called Katapayadi sutra and are organised as Melakarta rāgas. A Melakarta rāga is one which has all seven notes in both the ārōhanam (ascending scale) and avarōhanam (descending scale). Some Melakarta rāgas are Harikambhoji, Kalyani, Kharaharapriya, Mayamalavagowla, Sankarabharanam and Todi.

Janya rāgas are derived from the Janaka rāgas using a combination of the swarams (usually a subset of swarams) from the parent rāga. Some janya rāgas are Abheri, Abhogi, Bhairavi, Hindolam and Kambhoji. See the full List of Janya Ragas for more.

Each rāga has a definite collection and orders of swaras (the basic notes). In Carnatic music, there are 7 basic notes of which there are 12 varieties. The seven basic swarams of Carnatic music are: Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni.

I was a best signer & got prizes for Carnatic Music, vocal, in my college days. I devote few time for Keyboard learning. I am interested in Symphony music. I am trying to create my own symphony theme music.

Although there are stylistic differences, the basic elements of śruti (the relative musical pitch), swara (the musical sound of a single note), rāga (the mode or melodic formulæ), and tala (the rhythmic cycles) form the foundation of improvisation and composition in both Carnatic and Hindustani music. Although improvisation plays an important role, Carnatic music is mainly sung through compositions, especially the kriti (or kirtanam); a form developed between the 16th and 20th centuries by prominent composers, such as Purandara Dasa and the Trinity of Carnatic music.

Carnatic music is usually performed by a small ensemble of musicians, consisting of a principal performer (usually a vocalist), a melodic accompaniment (usually a violin), a rhythm accompaniment (usually a mridangam), and a tambura which acts as a drone throughout the performance. Other typical instruments used in performances may include the ghatam, kanjira, morsing, veena & flute. The most outstanding performances, and the greatest concentration of Carnatic musicians, are found in the city of Chennai. In particular, the six week-long Music Season held in Chennai every December, has been described as the world’s largest cultural event.

On an average 30 students per year & 15 students per batch. A very restrictive and conservative approach.  All the students are pursuing Professional Courses such as either CS or CA or CWA. Of the 300, 217 students were undergoing coaching under me for 3-4 subjects for 3-4 months period.

Also sources say that a new Vice-President, Head of Alternative Business and IT Advisor will be inducted to the CIER Team. This initiatives is under the back drop of CIER’s new business venture CIER BIZ. As per CS. Balakrishnan Bilu, the President of CIER, we will be concentrating more on virtual classes, e-learning & we are fully fit to enter as a business model, by our new venture CIER BIZ.

Recently CIER constituted a Students Council, and a Guideliene for the same has been notified. When asked about the role of coching classes in future in CIER’s portfolio, CS. Balarishnan Bilu, who is also the lead faculty, said that “CIER maintains a 80% market share of corporate laws coaching market in Trivandrum, and we do not intends to dilute it, rather we will be trying to tap new students Country wide by our e-learning project.’

Speaking about brand building initiatives Mrs. P. Rajani, member of  management council told that a stronger brand building steps are under way, and process for getting trade mark registration for CIER logo has already been commenced.
